1 Chronicles 13
The ark’s interrupted procession confronts Israel’s celebration with God’s holiness, while its stay with Obed-Edom brings blessing.
David consults Israel’s leaders and gathers the people to bring God’s ark from Kiriath Jearim. The assembly agrees, and the procession begins with music and celebration. When the oxen stumble, Uzza reaches out to hold the ark, and God strikes him dead for touching it. David becomes displeased and afraid, halting the move to his city. The ark stays at Obed-Edom’s house for three months, where YHWH blesses the household.
2 Samuel recounts the same procession, including Uzza’s death, David’s fear, and the blessing on Obed-Edom’s household. Numbers supplies the related commands for carrying holy objects and the warning against touching them, placing the ark’s transport within Israel’s rules for handling what belongs to God.

Why did God kill Uzza for touching the ark?
Verse 10 states that God struck Uzza because he put his hand on the ark. The oxen had stumbled, and Uzza reached out to hold it; the text does not describe his motives beyond that action. Numbers forbids touching holy objects under penalty of death, providing context for the judgment.
Why did the ark stay at Obed-Edom’s house?
After Uzza’s death, David was afraid of God and stopped the move into his city. He took the ark instead to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. It remained there three months, and YHWH blessed the household and all Obed-Edom had. The chapter does not explain why David chose that house.
